Hannah's First Birthday!

Last weekend we celebrated Hannah's FIRST BIRTHDAY. What? When did that even happen?
She had some family and friends over to celebrate.... Really quick can we talk about the downfalls of being a winter baby...being one myself, I can say that it sucks. Your birthday is too close to Christmas, your birthday party always has to be inside. blah blah blah. But we made the best of it and packed our guests in & served a big chili bar for lunch...let's look at pictures, shall we?

For the decor I bought a pack of fun colored paper from Michael's and used it as my inspiration for everything....

I made this cute happy birthday banner:

Hung a ribbon on the wall and used clothespins to hang her monthly photos on...

...and did a few other fun cutouts around the house

We also did a little time capsule to be opened on her 18th birthday! I wrote "Please leave a note about yourself, Hannah, 2013/14 in general or anything else to be opened on Hannah's 18th birthday!"
I picked up some cute little notecards at Michaels in the $1 section for people to write their notes on and ended up throwing in a few other things from the party including a party hat, her monthly pictures and any birthday cards that she got... I can't wait for her to open this on her 18th birthday!

A shot of people working hard on their time capsule notes :)

I was a bad blogger and apparently have no photos of it, but we ended up doing a chili bar for lunch which included two types of chilis (a regular meat/bean one and then a white chicken chili variety) along with bowls and bowls of toppings including: red onions, green onions, crackers, tortilla chips, fritos, guacamole, sour cream, cheese, mini jalapeƱo cornbread muffins and a variety of hot sauces... because let's be honest, the best thing about chili is most definitely the toppings. Everyone seemed to like it!

And of course there were desserts....
I made these adorable "1" lemon vanilla sugar cookies. The cookie cutter set came with all the numbers...so I guess this is officially a birthday tradition :) I had so much fun decorating these!

There were also chocolate cupcakes with a vanilla buttercream and Hannah's favorite whole wheat carrot applesauce muffins for her baby friends that didn't want as much of a sugar high :)

Gifts were opened:

And of course the guest of honor got to enjoy an adult size cupcake all to herself :)

hmmm...what is this?

ok, yeah, that's good....

Safe to say she was a fan...

Happy Birthday to our sweet, smart, hilarious, music and dancing loving little stinker!
