thank you (also) for being a friend

Many of you may remember one of my first blog posts dedicated to the life of Estelle Getty who was taken from us last year. This week we mourn another Golden Girl, Bea Arthur.

Dorothy was always secretly my favorite golden girl. She was smart (a teacher), quick witted (always with a witty way of calling Blanche a whore or Rose a Moron), and a great daughter (let crazy old Sophia live with her and her bffs even though she always embarrassed poor Dorothy)..and let's not forget her exhusband Stan....oh, that crazy Stan!

About a month ago, to my delight (and Rob's dismay) I have found re-found some channels that play golden girls at different times of the day...so I can start catching up again. (after literally seeing every single episode in college 10x... I had to go on gg hiatus for a while... but now it's like they're new again!)

Bea (Dorothy)... I know you will be happy living in your Florida house with the ridiculous amount of wicker furniture in the sky.... thank you for being a friend....

What have you done today...

I LOVE makeover week.
Now that we are getting towards the end of the season I can't decide who to root for/against. I've been rooting for Tara since the very beginning. I loved how she's been able to beat the boys in everything and her general attitute about life. I started liking her slightly less during the episode where they had to drag those cars across the finish line and people were putting all their weights in her car and she was all pissed off about it... but I think she looked gorgeous last night and that her and her mom have the sweetest relationship.
I also LOVe Mikey. What a sweet kid. A nice teammate, a sweet brother, a good son...just a very nice kid. I also enjoy Kristen...
I could do without Ron and Helen....and Fillipe I'm on the fence about. (Although I am not a big Jillian fan, their childish outburst was uncalled for)- Is anyone else even still in it? I can't even remember..... who are you rooting for?

A delicious Easter Weekend

I had a fabulous Easter weekend that was kicked off with a Thursday night Happy Hour at Hyde Park Tavern with friends outside on their huge patio…after a while it was a little too cold for outside and we had to move in, but it was nice to sit outside and have a cocktail. Friday I was off work and had big plans of nothing all day long. I made lunch (leftover tacos from Taco Tuesday- that was celebrated on Wednesday this week) and watched some ridiculous random movies on basic cable. Glorious. Friday night we went to our favorite Friday night event…the Whole Foods 5 for 5.. and came back and made some delicious “chicken with 40 cloves of garlic” mmmm

Saturday I had brunch with a bff from out of town, and then we ran some errands around town that included a last minute stop at Meijer to pick up something really quick. Well grocery stores + me never equal quick and I always want to browse the meat/vegetables and see what looks fresh and what’s on sale. We found a little rack of lamb that I had to have and our sushi plans for that night quickly turned into Rack of Lamb at home..with a bottle of wine and a movie. Perfect night.

We also whipped up these cutie cupcakes to bring to my family’s Easter..

Along with this seriously delicious pasta salad: “pasta, pesto and peas”- it also has parmesan and pine nuts, but those were apparently not important p’s enough to be mentioned in the name.

Easter consisted of church, the Chinese Buffet (longstanding tradition on my mom’s side of the family…random I know) and then a cookout at my Dad’s sister’s house. Which included an Easter Egg Hunt in which the small children “hid” the Easter Eggs and the adults had to look for them. I pretty much felt like I was just cleaning up the yard as they were just dumped everywhere. Then they followed us around in their power wheels so we could put the eggs in the trunk. (Man- I wanted a power wheels SO BAD when I was their age) Rob was picking up some eggs out of a bush when I made my getaway and left him out there to finish the muddy Easter egg hunt on his own.. (sorry rob…)

Today I start term 2 of school: Stocks, Sauces and Soups.. wish me luck!

Also on another completely separate note: Cincinnati Folks.. recommend or recommend against your gym. I am looking for a good arrangement of times of classes (ie- 6am but also later at night), a swimming pool and also I refuse to sign a gym contract (ever again) I am going to call the Bellevue Urban Active this afternoon to see what I can find out…I’ve heard that it is possible to put the Urban Actives against each other as a bargaining technique to get the best deal…which I don’t really have time for..but am willing to do if needed. Thanks!

Updates Updates! read all about 'em!

So sorry again that I have been a major blogger slacker as of late… here I am with all the recent life updates!

Running was getting really iffy there for a while. Once I hit week 3 the pain in my knee started becoming unbearable and every time I was done running my whole knee would turn completely black and blue and swell up like a balloon. I didn’t think this sounded normal so I googled and sure enough…it’s from the pronation and most likely the whole issue with my leg being fully casted when I was younger, etc. So for the past week or two I have been walking. Walking hills and walking fast…but walking nonetheless.

I also consulted my talented (and pretty) friend Stephanie who is a physical therapist who was nice enough to fully explain exactly what was going on to me, sneak me into the hospital after hours to make me some fancy new inserts for my shoes and tell me exactly what stretches I should be doing to help. Today will be my first day running with the new inserts and while she has assured me I will hate them for a minimum of 3 weeks, I am very excited about them! Thanks again Stephanie!!

Culinary School:
I have successfully completed my first term of culinary school! With an A nonetheless! toot! (that was me tooting my own horn).. while it was a lot more involved than I thought it would be, it was really fun and I’m super excited to start my next term (soups, sauces and stocks)..while it would probably make more sense to take a soup class in the winter….this is the next class in the series and I love soup..so bring it on!

New Drinking Games Discovery
This had to be added because last weekend was filled with birthday parties! At Suzi’s superfun “I’m on a boat” themed birthday party I learned a new drinking game. It was called Boom. Now everyone knows me and my adoring feelings towards flipcup…but I have to say…this game ties it, if not beats it. If you have any summer party plans with me this summer…get excited to learn the best new game ever…ps bobcat alums…apparently this is the hot new game for the youngins at OU. We always were on the cutting edge of fun….

This weekend
Tonight I am going to bed at 9pm in anticipation for tomorrow when we will sundress it up to board a school bus at 8am for a fun-filled day at Keeneland with the P&G F&A new hires…while I am neither a new hire or in f&a….Taylor and Claire have been kind enough to ask Krista and I to be their plus 1s. This bus will involve mimosas and loud music on the bus at 8am… a couple hours of tailgating and lunch in the parking lot (including Boom!..if we have anything to say about it) then free admission, programs, drink tickets, etc…followed by betting on horses and then heading back to Cincy around 6. After that my good friend Ryan Kane is having a party bus for his birthday that the four of us will be on and ready to ring in his 29th year in style…. It will be a seriously fun (and exhausting) but FUN day….can’t wait ladies!
